RCH Wards/Theatre: Place fresh placenta in a biohazard bag labelled with patient's details and then into a pail labelled with the patient's details. Attach the request form to the pail and forward to the Core Laboratory if either or Histology/Microbiology is requested. Please note: pails can be obtained from the Core Laboratory.

RWH Wards/Theatre: Place fresh placenta in a biohazard bag labelled with patient's details and then into a pail labelled with the patient's details. Attach the request form to the pail and forward to Anatomical Pathology RWH if either or Histology/Microbiology is requested.

LAB NOTES RCH:

During working hours: notify Anatomical Pathology ext 5748, to collect.

After hours, including week-ends: Store placenta in the cold room and forward to Anatomical Pathology during working hours. Any queries - Page the Anatomical Pathology scientist via RCH switchboard.
