24 Urine in a 4L CONTAINER WITH  5 mL of 1% THYMOL  in 1% ISOPRPANOL preservative. Obtain container from Laboratory with a collection kit (funnel and container). See SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS BELOW.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Container with 5mL of 1% THYMOL  in 1% ISOPROPANOL preservative to be prepared just prior to issue by Laboratory. Caution:Ensure patient/carer understands the associated risk

LAB NOTES:

CONTAINER PREPARATION:

-Add 5mL of 1% Thymol in 1% iso-propanol to a 4L urine container.

( 1% Thymol in 1% iso-propanol is located in the corrosives cabinet)

- Attach all caution labels to the container

-ÌýHAND AMEND the ' urine container issued' sticker for this preservative.

Post Collection:

-Record total collection time and total  urine volume collected.

-Freeze a 10mL urine aliquot ASAP and send on dry ice to Hunter Area Pathology (with next routine interstate run).

Send to testing laboratory on dry ice. Do not pack dry ice in a sealed container.  Use appropriate PPE.

RANDOM SAMPLES:

No preparation required. Send sample to laboratory on dry ice. Do not pack dry ice in a sealed container.  Use appropriate PPE.

(Note: samples may be stored refrigerated for 48 hours before being frozen).
