Nephrotic syndrome - pre-referral guideline

  • Ìý

    Definition

    • Proteinuria, Low serum albumin, <25g/l or oedema, elevated cholesterol.

    Initial work-up

    • Electrolytes
    • Urea
    • Creatinine
    • Albumin
    • Urinalysis with microscopy (clean catch urine)
    • FBE
    • C3, C4
    • Serologic work-up indicated in all patients with multi-system disease: ANA, Hepatitis B, C, ANCA

    When to refer

    • Refer prior to treatment:
      • All patients with nephrotic syndrome.

    • Urgent admissionindicated for all patients with nephrotic syndrome.
