What is late effects of cancer treatment?

More than 80% of children who develop childhood cancer will be long term survivors who have been cured of their disease. In these patients, endocrine complications are commonly seen, often due to radiotherapy and alkylating agent chemotherapy. This can lead to short and long-term impact on:

• Hypothalamus and/or pituitary function
• Thyroid functionÌý
• Gonadal function and fertility
• Poor bone health
• Obesity and diabetes mellitus
