Insulin pumps are covered under warranty for 4-5 years (depending on your private health insurance policy).

As you approach the end of your 4 year warranty period, it is a good idea to start planning for your next insulin pump.Ìý

Please note: The actual date for ordering your new pump and booking your pump upgrade needs to be 4 years after the date of having started your current pump at The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) (i.e. date you were admitted to hospital).ÌýÌý

Steps to plan for your insulin pump upgradeÌý

• Speak to your doctor in clinic about planning for your pump upgradeÌý
• Check with your private health insurance company if they will cover the cost of a new pump or apply for your expression of interest through the Ìý(JDRF Insulin Pump Program has certain criteria to be eligible to apply). If applying through JDRF you can submit your application within 6 months of the end of the warranty period.Ìý
• If you are getting funding through private health insurance, look into which pump you would like to upgrade to. At the RCH, the current pumps we provide education for are the Ìý Ìýand pump
• After letting us know which pump you want to upgrade to, we will send you the required paperwork to complete (note: most insurance companies will not accept a new order until the warranty period has expired).Ìý
• Once all paperwork is completed, we will order the pump (pump order will take place 4 years after your current pump started). When your pump arrives at the RCH, we will contact you to book the upgrade into the next available appointment.
  Please note: we aim to book you in as close to your warranty period finishing but this is not always possible.
  
• If you are changing pump companies and wear a continuous glucose monitor (CGM), you may need to change the type of CGM you use. See this page for information on the advanced pump features (Control IQ®Ìýor SmartGuard®).Ìý
• If you are changing to a different pump brandÌýand therefore a different CGM, NDSS will need to be updated closer to the pump upgrade to the new CGM system. We will discussÌýwith you theÌýplan for education for the new CGM system.Ìý
• If you are upgrading to the same pump that you are currently using your pump upgrade appointment can be done via telehealth or at RCH. If you are changing to a new model or brand of Pump your upgrade appointment will need to be at the RCH.
• Follow up appointment:ÌýAll pump upgrades will be offered a follow up appointment to review settings 2–3 weeks after the upgrade to support optimising your diabetes control.ÌýÌýÌý
