Blood glucose meters

  • At diagnosis you will be provided with a Blood Glucose Meter by your diabetes educator. This will often be an Abbott Freestyle Libre reader as it checks both Blood Glucose Levels (BGLs) and Blood Ketone Levels. It is a touch screen, rechargeable meter (it does NOT have button batteries) and has a 2 year warranty. If you need a replacement due to a malfunction or a broken part please contact Abbott via Customer Care - Freestyle

DO NOT LEAVE ANY METER IN THE REACH OF YOUNG CHILDREN. Many meters have BUTTON BATTERIES. Swallowing button batteries can be fatal and emergency medical care is essential if there is any chance a child has swallowed them. We recommend that any meter purchased with button batteries has a locked button case.

If you are using an Abbott Neo meters the battery case is locked and batteries cannot be replaced. When the low battery warning shows, call Abbott customer care for a replacement meter on 1800 801 478

Replacement meters can also be purchased from most chemists for ~ $50.

If you are using FreeStyle Libre 2 CGM and still using an Abbott Neo meter, you can request a free Libre reader. It uses the same strips as the Neo Meter. To upgrade to the Libre Reader, visit
